Hydroxypropyl Starch Ether (HPS) is a modified, plant-derived starch ether supplied as a fine, free-flowing white or off-white powder. It is designed primarily as a rheology-modifying additive for cement-, gypsum-, and lime-based dry-mix construction materials.

HPS provides rapid thickening and improves the consistency, workability, sag resistance, and slip resistance of wet mortar. It also helps reduce segregation and prevents thick layers from slumping during application. HPS is generally used together with cellulose ethers such as HPMC or MHEC, where a small addition can enhance application performance and support a more economical formulation.
